The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) called on the former opposition leader in the National Assembly (NA) Raja Riaz to discuss various election-related matters on Thursday. Raja Riaz highlighted the significance of the Election Commission’s recommendations about the approaching elections in an interview to the media following the meeting. Raja Riaz also mentioned that the Election Commission had contacted him for advice and conveyed the prediction that the polls would take place in the middle of February. The President’s letter to the Chief Election Commissioner was written under pressure, he added in his remarks. Raja Riaz suggested, among other issues, that judges serve as Returning Officers (ROs), as doing so would produce more objective and transparent results. He claimed that the Election Commission had told him that free and fair elections would be held.
