LAHORE: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has dismissed the rumours circulating on social media about snowfall in the plains of Punjab, saying that they are baseless and fake.

The PMD said in a statement on Monday that the cold wave is expected to continue across the country until next week, with dense fog prevailing in the plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh.

The Met Office also predicted rain and snowfall in Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan from Tuesday to Thursday, saying that these areas will experience downpours and snowfall over mountains on the 16th, 17th, and 18th of January.

However, the PMD clarified that there is no possibility of snowfall in the plains of Punjab, including Lahore, and urged the public to ignore fake news on social media.

The PMD said that frost is also expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pothohar region, including Islamabad and Kashmir, and advised the people to take precautionary measures during the foggy and frosty days.

The PMD also said that the temperature in the daytime will remain below normal due to foggy conditions, and urged the motorists to drive carefully and use fog lights.

According to the PMD, the minimum temperature recorded on Monday in Lahore was 4°C, while the maximum was 14°C. The humidity level was 87% in the morning and 55% in the evening.
